ERIC SCHOLES

Eric Scholes is a freelance bass player in the Auckland metropolitan region. He performs regularly with The Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, Auckland Chamber Orchestra, and NZ Barok. Eric obtained his post-graduate degree in performance double bass at the Peabody Institute in Baltimore, Maryland where Ira Gold as his teacher. He also took lessons in viola da gamba and violone with baroque cellist John Moran and performed regularly with the Baltimore Baroque Band. Eric travelled to festival academies including Akademie für Alte Musik Bruneck, the Tafelmusik Baroque Summer and Winter Institutes in Toronto, and the Amsterdam Early Music Summer School. As featured soloist with NZ Barok, Eric performed Dittersdorf’s concerto No. 2 in May 2019 to great acclaim. He also plays electric bass in a number of bands. His interests outside of music include spearfishing, camping, and tramping.
